Do you believe in aliens? Do you believe in love? Do you believe in yourself? These are just a few of the questions that Marisela Barrera asks during Tejana Rasquacha, a theatrical storytelling event based upon the author’s life. Check it out on Saturday, December 22nd at 8:00 p.m.
Inspired by true events, Tejana Rasquacha chronicles Barrera’s Tejana life, from a small town in the Rio Grande Valley, to Dallas and finally her home in San Antonio. Think Spalding Gray meets Gloria Anzaldúa and Michele Serros while harmonizing with Guillermo Gómez-Peña. Tejana Rasquacha features live music by Jaime Ramirez.
Marisela Barrera is a theater artist, writer and educator who has created Tex-Mex stories for over twenty years. She is a genre-fluid writer who has created a number of works, including original stage plays, stage adaptations of novels and short stories, creative fiction and nonfiction, hybrid journalism, and much more.
Tejana Rasquacha will be held at Jump-Start Performance Company. Jump-Start is dedicated to the discovery and support of new ideas in the arts and arts education. By encouraging visionary thought and non-traditional approaches, Jump-Start is committed to the creation of art that is a lasting voice of diverse cultures and communities.
